Yellow Days

There’s the faint noise of wings fluttering in the air, almost too fast for the naked eye to see. Glints of gold shines in the yellow rays from the sun, making spots of colour appear before his eyes for a long while after.

Lying on the outskirts of the Forbidden Forest, bathed in sunlight, Harry Potter feels safe.

A faint rustling besides him alerts him to the presence of another. His eyes are closed, not able to tell him who it is, and a myriad of possible options flutter through his mind, just like tiny golden wings: Ron, Hermione, Neville, Hagrid, Ginny, Luna...

Luna.

He opens his eyes, just a tad, meeting her large blue ones in a short acknowledgement of her presence. She smiles, gaze straying towards the trees.

“I thought I saw something… glinting,” Luna says, her soft voice creating patterns in his mind: if she didn’t say such odd things at times, her tone would be extremely soothing, he thinks.

“I decided to follow it,” She continues, fingers kneading through the grass under her. “One never knows what one might find here.”

She turns towards him. “And then I saw you lying here and thought you wouldn’t mind some company.”

“I don’t.” Harry says, knowing that she won’t need the reassurance. She can read people’s moods like Hermione reads books, even if she appears blissfully unaware.

“I also thought you might know what it is,” She says then. Harry blinks.

“It?”

“The golden light.”

He smiles then. “Maybe it’s Nargles,” He says.

Luna frowns. “Don’t be ridiculous, Harry Potter. Nargles aren’t that colour.” Raising her hand, she points to the flying object. “That is the Golden Snitch.”
