Don't they also have a conversation where Riley is like "YOU DON'T LOVE ME" and Buffy is like "YES I DO"? I mean really, how are you supposed to respond to that?
Honestly, though, what I really think killed the relationship was the dude who played Riley's lack of chemistry with Sarah Michelle Geller (Buffy). I think they tried to make him interesting, and the actor tried hard, but there was no spark between them. James Marsters (Spike) however, would have chemistry with a cinder block if you put it in front of him. Heck, Riley and Spike had more chemistry than Riley and Buffy!
