Spoilers as always :)
I can't decide if this is a good episode or just a medium one. It's always a bit hard to discern completely, with a show like Being Human, because we have several different plots following several different characters. And that's a really good thing, because it offers the chance for what could have easily turned into a bad episode, to redeem itself by having a lot of moments that really shine through.
That's not to say that I hated the main storyline of this episode. At first, I was intriqued. This was so... grotesque and new and odd, and it fit so well with the over-all feeling of the show. And I love how Sasha was basically Nina's opposite in everything. She has a body, but its decaying. She's fun-loving, out-going, confident and has a fiancée who actually cares (yes, he was self-absorbed and a bit of a douche, but I don't think he was a genuinly bad person. To be honest, I think I would have stabbed the charging zombie too, and I'm a pacifist. But charging zombie). That's not to say that Annie isn't fun-loving and out-going, but her character is rooted in insecurity. I'm not going to do a full psychological-study, but let me just say that I am so happy that the writers haven't gone with the whole stereotype of girls who fall for 'bad men' (which Annie has a tendency to do. In fact, as far as we know, all the boys she's liked has been 'monsters' at least at one point in their lives). Annie is normal. She's sweet and shy and selfless. But her insecurity means that she keeps coming back in the same pattern, keeps coming back to these men who aren't good for her, who keep hurting her. And that's real. That happens everyday - you can't always tell if a couple walking by are actually happy. You can't tell if they're hiding bruises and hurt souls. It's not just the ones from a sad and bad background that end up with the bad guys. Just look at Nina: now we know that she had the kind of up-bringing we would expect from any villain or shades-of-grey character. And yet she isn't. Nina is strong, independent, fierce and she's found the absolute sweetest guy on the planet. Is he a werewolf? Yeah. But, as George says, that's not most of the time. Most of the time, he's actually just this great guy.
Sasha could have easily become an annoying metaphor for Nina, but the writers managed to keep that away. That didn't mean that I thought it was all sunshine all the time. God, she looked horrid! That make-up was really well done, but to be honest I could have done without it! And just seeing her rot and decay and... brrr. I think that's the worst thing this show has ever produced, imo!
Now lets talk about Mitchell. I mentioned above that Annie keeps falling for the bad guy. Is she doing this again? Yes. The problem is that Mitchell could, at another point, have been really good for her. They do seem sort of meant to be, what with their various states and all. There's no chance he's going to suddenly accidentally kill her, is there? And she can be with him for as long as they have.
But its happened now. Now when Mitchell is slowly falling apart. Now when he knows that soon, very very soon, something bad is going to happen to him. Soon, he won't be here anymore. OTP why must you be doomed??? It's not fair! I just can't figure out any happy ending. The show makes this clear, with showing us the notebook in the end. Annie might accept him and say she forgives him, but what happens when she finds out the full extent of what he's done? How many people he's brutally murdered, for fun as much as for food?
That wolf-shaped bullet seems more and more like its headed for the both of them. Why can't I have nice things?
Oh, no wait, that's right, I can actually. Because Nina and George are having a baby. Nina and George are having a baby. Nina and George are having a baby.
I don't even care that this is going to be turned into an angst-fest as well, because NINA AND GEORGE ARE HAVING A BABY. A LITTLE HAIRY BABY. OMG. A BABY. A BABY. BABYBABYBABY!! HOW BEAUTIFUL IS THEIR CHILD GOING TO BE? I MEAN JESUS CHRIST! BEAUTIFUL AND CLEVER AND STRONG AND WILL IT BE A WEREWOLF OMG THEY WERE WOLVES WHEN THEY... CONCEIVED. Ohgod.
I don't care because Nina and George are having a baby!
QUOTES:
'I only went up for a pee!'
'... that's all it ever was with Mitchell. Train train train. Bloody train!'
'How could she not know she's dead?'
'Annie's invisible to humans, you can't be seen on CCTV. I think you can manage sneaking one zombie back into the hospital.'
'So we're a supernatural hostel now, are we? What's next, a mummy?'
'Don't worry, I'm not drinking. Gotta keep an eye on Priscilla over there. I'm the designated woman-with-a-pulse.'
'Mitchell. Should we get pissed?'
'You. Are a genius, George'
'George. Would you like to have a little... hairy baby... with me?'
