The Hunger Games - Movie

I AM GOING TO MARRY THE CRAP OUTTA THIS MOVIE!

No, but seriously. That was amazing. Stunning scenery, excellent camera-work, amazing acting especially by Jennifer, Josh and Willow. How sinister is Donald Sutherland all of the sudden? How amazing was Clove? How perfect was the casting for Foxface? HOW INCREDIBLE WAS THE EXTRA LITTLE SCENE OF SENECA CRANE'S ASSASINATION WHERE THEY SIMPLY LOCK HIM IN A ROOM WITH THE BERRIES?? OMG SNOW YOUR SENSE OF HUMOR IS SO DISTURBING I LOVE IT.

The costumes where stunning as well, but I had imagined more fire from the chariot-rides; I liked what I was given though. The extra-scenes were a nice touch - in the books we are extremely restricted to Katniss POV, and the movies had a chance to expand on that. They did it beautifully.

Faults? I would've liked more time with Rue, and the whole of the conversation between Katniss and Peeta in the cave. His 'I saw you every day after that. Every day' was incredibly sweet though, and I will not account for any high-pitched sounds of joy I might've made at the time. I am so happy they didn't go all Gale/Katniss/Peeta drama on us, but they might still drop the bomb in the second movie (and to be fair, there is a fair bit of romantic drama in Catching Fire. I'm just praying it won't be the focus). Katniss' hallucinations, the flashback and Ceasar Flickerman were things that had me jumping in my seat as well, and the Mutts where alright; they were used in the best way possible, without adding or taking too much away. I'm sort of happy they didn't go with the 'they're made out of the dead Tributes' because I disliked that in the book to be honest, and it would have been even harder to do in the movie.

So, overall? Not perfect. But nothing is. And this was as fucking close as it could possibly be. AM I GOING TO SEE IT IN THE CINEMAS AGAIN? HELL YES!!

I WILL SEE IT AGAIN! I SHALL NOT REST UNTIL IT IS DONE!!!

But seriously, one of my friends (well... person I know and don't particularly care much for, but anyway -.-) saw it Saturday and she was all: 'it's not very good', so I had sort of mixed expectations brought on by fear and the like and then IT WAS SO GOOD I NEARLY DIED RIGHT THEN AND THERE!!

Yes. Yes to all of this. :D

I wanted to pause the screen at all the scenes of the Capitol so I could really get a good look at it. And the added scenes were definitely a nice bonus, since we weren't limited to a strictly Katniss-POV.

And yes, Seneca's death, scene, how sinister was that???? WOW. Snow is so completely creepy.

I was so tense during the whole Tracker Jacker scene. I'm already freaked out by bees, so seeing that whole thing happen..... eek.

And yes, I didn't feel like Rue and Katniss got enough time to develop their friendship.

As far as the Peeta/Katniss stuff, it was good, but I did worry that the nuances of how they (or at least she) are playing to the camera might not have come across to any viewers that hadn't read the book.

But yeah, it was good. I'm going to go see it again.

One thing I would have loved would have been to get a closer look at the other Tributes costumes during the Parade, and also see more of the other Districts - but it's just been announced that there will be 4 movies in all, with the last one split in two, so we'll get plenty of times to see more of that!

It all went really fast in the end, didn't it? I wonder how they're going to fit in the awkward dynamic, but maybe they'll have a flashback in the second movie or something.

Oh, yes. I think there are pictures in the Movie Companion. I'll have to look next time I go to the book store.

akjsdlkajsd, THE ACTING. I half want to marry Jennifer because she's so amazing.

It was amazing, but there were so many things they missed; like Haymitch falling off the stage at the Reaping. That was one of my favourite parts.

Also, I thought they tried to downplay the romance too much (I think because it kept getting compared to Twilight), which is a shame, because it's quite an important theme, and unlike in Twilight, actually helps demonstrate something important.

/rant.

Hmm, yes, but to be fair it wasn't really important. Honestly, there was a lot of things about Haymitch character I didn't like. It was like Haymitch lite instead of the grumpy, insane alcoholic who throws up over himself in their first conversation. It wasn't because of Woody's acting, more the writing I think. Still, able to enjoy it!

I was sort of relieved that they downplayed the romance: to me, the books are about Katniss' love for her sister, not Peeta and Gale's love for Katniss. Plus, it was always going to be hard to show Katniss' train of thought in regards to her not really being in love with Peeta yet (or not realizing that she's in love with him yet), so I think they had to downplay it, so as to not make her seem like the biggest Slut of Slutdonia in the second movie with her going back and forth between Gale and Peeta (did that make any sense?)

I found it hilarious when they clipped between the kiss and Gale tho. Way to ruin a beautiful moment ;D

Yeah, that's kind of what I meant. There weren't those little scenes, like where he falls off the stage, or where they have to convince him to try to help them out, which I always thought was integral to his character.

I always thought that the fabricated relationship was really important to the plot, reflecting the peverse amounts of power the Capitol could have over it's citizens. I went with a friend who hadn't read the books, and she had no idea that the relationship wasn't true. I just think if they maybe added in that scene on the train where the truth comes out, it would have made a little more sense.

I actually didn't mind that too much. In the books, Gale was pretty absent, but the movie forces you to be reminded of him, a lot like Katniss's thoughts in the book.

Maybe they're going to incorporate some of it into the second movie, or just make it seem like Katniss really does want to forget everything that ever happened. I think they figured they had to be mindful of the rating, hence a lot of changes.

I just saw it yesterday. It was freakin' beautiful! And I usually am picky but this-- this movie really was fantastic. I adore the main actress-- funny that one of her first movies star as her being the tough hunter teenage daughter with a mentally absent mother with the need to protect her younger siblings. (It's called Winter's Bone. :D)

Oooh, I've just bought that movie! :D Going to watch it sometime soon with some friends
